Whoever controls the media also controls opinions and attitudes of the people and there is little that can be done to rectify this. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There is an opinion that the mass media have a significant influence on people’s viewpoint and it is unlikely that this situation can be changed. I disagree with this statement. Currently, this issue is crucial because at all times, the media have had a great impact on the mass consciousness. In 21st century there are a lot of types of mass media that people face every day. In my essay i will present my own viewpoint on this problem.
Controlling people’s opinion is complicated thing. To begin with, there are a lot of various new sources. People can get the information from different authors, analyze it and make their own view. Second, the people’s trust is decreasing. For example, according to the American recent survey, a large amount of people view mass media negatively (about 43%) than positively (33%). It happens due to the fact that journalists often lie. They resort to unfair methods of drawing attention to their source.
On the contrary, those who disagree with my opinion believe that mass media controls people’s attitudes to various aspects of life. It is partly true. First, there are vulnerable people such as children, old people, mentally ill people who can trust any information that they see. The media takes an advantage of such people. It is easy to control them.
As for me, I tend to believe that despite of the fact mass media play an vital role in everyday life it cannot absolutely control people’s views. However, special part of people can be controlled. So that’s why the government must monitor all mass media and censor indecent information.
To conclude, I assume I have managed to convince you that mass media isn’t the source of totally true. People can wisely analyze information and make their own attitudes. My viewpoint is supported by my arguments.
